There are parts of us below our awareness that drive how we think, feel and what we do. These parts are akin to computer programs that determine how we function and execute decisions.
The result of these subconscious programs is that we seem to attract certain situations, opportunities & people to ourselves. Life seems to happen to us. In actuality, we are creating all of what happens.
Swiss Psychologist Carl Jung once said,
“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”
Carl Jung
These subconscious programs are not an elusive mystical power that we have no control over. Rather, they consist of our core beliefs, our values and all the conditioning that society, culture and our upbringing have instilled in us.
The issue arises when these programs no longer work for us and continue to lead us in circles or down a path while causing more harm than good.
So how do you become conscious of your subconscious?
The first step is through practicing self-awareness/mindfulness. Start by learning to listen as opposed to running away from yourself. Be comfortable with discomfort. Once you can manage this comfortably, you will be ready to go further.
Ask yourself today, “What aspect of my subconscious needs to be brought to the surface?”
Sometimes a little guidance can go a long way. If this is an area of your life you find you are needing help with, give us a call today.
